Steinbeck had that rare ability to turn a random diner interaction or a dusty roadside into something you’d underline twice in a novel.

It’s like he found poetry in things most of us would breeze past, half asleep on a road trip.

Makes you wonder what we’re all missing in our own day-to-day grind, right?
