As much as I agree with you and as critical as I've been about the platform myself, most of my experiences have been positive overall.

Unfortunately, it's always the negative ones that stand out though.

At the end of the day, despite its shortcomings, I'd still prefer having them in the market as an option than not.

Competition is a good thing.

I, for example could not find any longer term accommodations than 2-3 days where the options were even comparable.

Staying a month in a hotel at the same price of an Airbnb, haven't found one yet...

Facebook groups, etc. in finding accommodations for longer term stays?

Unless they also have the same listings on Booking.com or Airbnb, there's even less of a guarantee of what you're getting than the little those other two options provide and more of a crap shoot.
