As someone who's lived outside the US now for 26 years, and felt many of the things described in this article, I, ironically, choose to look at all the good America still has and what it ideally represents.
I know, it's difficult to find nowadays and technology, social rifts and divisions make this almost impossible, especially if you are still living in the US bubble. However, we've been here before, just look at our history, it's not that long, lol...
But. I have lived, traveled and worked in far worse locals and societies.
Many mistakenly idolize some of these places as places that time forgot. Where so-called traditional values still exist, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Many don't even speak or bother learning the language of the places they idolize, before or even after moving there, let alone the mentality. In fact, most never truly escape the US bubble and the societal rifts that they chose to leave behind in the first place due to American social media, which they never disconnected from.
But live, work and deal with the people and their society for any length of time, you'll soon realize the grass is not always greener.
As an American Expat I still have hope. And they say hope is the last to die. I can live with that...
