I couldn’t resist writing a comment on this article because I grew up in a town famous for having its own "witch."

Actually, my home state of Connecticut should practically be called the Halloween capital of the world.

Especially with classics like the 1975 classic "The Stepford Wives" (the original, of course, not the terrible remake) being based supposedly in Fairfield County (my home county as well...)

I like how you describe *The Kiss of The Vampire* as suspenseful but not over-the-top scary. I'm old enough to remember when it came out. Nick Cage was a rising star then...

Sometimes, that balance makes these films all the more intriguing, allowing the story, setting, and subtle chills to create the effect rather than relying on jump scares.
