I grew up in a small Connecticut town too, for the most part. However, I grew up in a time before Subcontinent immigration was more common.

Ironically, my pediatrician, who practiced from his home office, was from Pakistan, Dr, Kasim.

My father had done the plumbing on his newly built home.

My brother and I went to him for years, even after we turned 18 when he finally said, you boys need to start seeing a Doctor for adults...lol...

Great man, kind, well spoken.

My next contact with someone from the subcontinent was from India.

I was a physician recruiter and this Doctor and his wife invited me and my colleague to their home for dinner.

It was the first time I had ever tried Indian food! Delicious! I swear, it was the most delicious Indian food I've ever had...

Many Americans forget way too quickly that our people (our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents…) were all immigrants at one time or another…. It’s one of the few things that are supposed to bind us together….

Thanks for such a well written piece)
