I live the term "Yank". As someone who had spent most of my formative years in 3 different parts of the US. I had quickly adapted my accents and vernacular to basically fit in. Then once I moved abroad taught English and became an examiner for various English language exams, developing a keen ear became invaluable. In addition, before I left the US I couldn't tell an Aussie accent from a British one. Now. I can even pick up somewhat where someone is from within the UK... Hopefully, accents will continue to survive despite homogenization due to Hollywood and the Internet....Thanks for sharing 🙂
