I paid as I've traveled, no insurance. Risky to think especially for Americans who are so fleeced between their insurance providers, deductables, coverage, prescriptions (66% of all Americans are on some kind) plus all those drug commercials on TV...

I don't recommend traveling without insurance, but when I have seen a doctor or dentist, it was high quality and affordable. Prescriptions and medications are extremely affordable compared to the US, so paying out of pocket hasn't been a big deal.
