I'm with you on this. Many of my favorite creators are on the Substack bandwagon, some I've checked out, but to be honest, the more they rave about it, the more something seems off... It's gotten to the point where I am not only about to unsubscribe to their Substacks, but unfollow them here at Medium as well. I still can't wrap my head around the whole Substack business model.

I mean, why pay $5 a month to one creator on Substack when I could pay $5 a month to read and enjoy content from millions on Medium, most of which publish basically the same content on both platforms...
