Most of those questions I listed are those that should not be asked when meeting someone for the first time.

Obviously once and if you get to know them better, these questions are normal.

As far as which questions, well, think outside the box.

You're in a foreign country, a new place.

Ask them about the town or city you are in. Are there any restaurants or cafes they would recommend. What about dishes to try.

How about some of the history of the place or are there any sites they would recommend seeing.... I'm spitballing here, but, hopefully, you get the picture.

Ironically, some of those very same questions, you might get asked yourself, but, usually after you get to know someone, even just a little bit.
