My first impression of Romania was taking the train from the border town of Vidin, Bulgaria. Great town, Bulgarian trains were fine, nothing fancy but compared to the Romanian train to Craiova (a real dump as well),, they might as well have been first class.

The train to Craiova was hot, no AC and only 4 windows that could open on the whole car in the middle of August.

Slow, there were farmers on horse powered wagons literally traveling besides us that were faster.

And filthy! Never in my life had I seen roaches on a train before, they were crawling around the seats and luggage, disgusting!
