My first trip to Europe was to Germany. After 1 day, I hated it (I've come around since to really like it though).

Anyway I had 10 more days, money and a car. I had studied French for 2 years in college, but like you, I had heard the French were rude, didn't like Americans, blah, blah, blah...

But I decided what the hell, at least I had a shot at communicating with them.

So I picked a town on the map and drove.

To make a long story, not so long, I've been going back to this same town (and surrounding area) in France now for 30 years. And I always have a place to stay.

I've been to 2 weddings, a Christening and I'm a Godfather to a French boy who's now 23 and entering the Army. I also spent 2 years teaching him English twice a week over Zoom.

There's nothing like first hand experience to put stereotypes to shame...travel will do that:)

Thanks for sharing 👍.
