This is a good way to go. That and make sure the reviews are recent. If the last review was in 2023, that's kind of a red flag.

Personally, I always leave good reviews even if the place wasn't perfect. As long as it was clean, everything worked and I didn't feel like I was deceived.

But on some where it didn't live up to expectations, but not to where I felt ripped off, I won't leave any reviews at all since it's not worth the hassle.

I think many guests do this which is why it's important to always look for recent reviews...

I had one bad experience, after going back and forth with Airbnb I got a 7% discount. Again didn't bother leaving a review.

I'm about to leave for a 3 month trip around Europe. Would love to book 3 one month stays, but like you, I am hesitant.

So, I will probably book a few nights with Booking.com, then while in the town, contact some Airbnb hosts and ask to see the apartments before personally, before booking.

It's a little more expensive and more of a hassle, but I may even save money by booking through Airbnb for the 1st few days, then arranging with the host off platform...

Thanks for sharing 😀
