This really hits home for anyone who's spent time abroad like I have. Chasing the myth of the "authentic local spot."

We so often romanticize the idea that if locals are eating there, it must be good, only to find that "crappy" food is a universal constant.

It’s comforting to realize that no culture has a monopoly on bad restaurants.

Lowering expectations while still staying curious is a skill all travelers develop after a few too many disappointing meals.
